Airtable Forms

Renan Ferreira

Airtable is a spreadsheet-database hybrid, with the features of a database but applied to a spreadsheet. It is used by more than 250.000 companies and provides great integration with other popular services like Google Docs, Gmail, Dropbox, and many others.

They already provide a form builder, that you can share with other members of your team and start populating your database. But it has limited customization options and to add your brand to it you need to upgrade to a paid plan.

With Scribo you can create beautiful and customizable forms that integrate seamlessly with the Airtable databases. Basically, you will need to follow 4 steps:

Create a table

If you don’t already have a workspace, create one with a table. That is not much more to do at these steps. The only important note is that the name of each column will be used by each field in your future form.

For this tutorial we recommend you create three text columns:

  • name
  • email
  • phone

Create an API key

For the integration with Scribo to work we need an API Key. To get one, first, navigate to your account page. under the API heading, there’s a button that says “Generate API key.” Click this button and copy the key.

Next, we will need the workspace ID and the Table name. The first you will find on the URL of your table page as shown on the following image:

The table name will be presented on the same page, inside a tab, as shown below:

These three pieces of information will be important in the next step where you will create the form in Scribo

Import Airtable Template

Now go to the Scribo dashboard and create a new Team. Give it a name and a slug (text used to generate the final URL of your team). You will be redirected to the editor page where you need to click on the “Templates” button on the left sidebar.

Select the “Airtable Forms Template” and fill the configuration section with the information gathered in the previous step.

Publish your website

If everything goes right, the page will be reloaded and all you need to do is click on the publish button. Your form will be available at the following URL:

https://YOUR_TEAM_SLUG.scribo.dev

Fill out the form and check if the information will appear at Airtable. It should be almost in real-time!

Now you can customize your website, change the fields, add new columns, change the image, etc. To learn more about how you can do this, check out our “Getting Started” playlist on Youtube or contact us at renan@scribo.dev.
